June Middle Distance Update: GB & County ESAA Schools Selections & South of England Championship winner
A lot of the focus for June was about training and racing to gain selections for some of the most important championships of the season for school-age runners.
European U18 Championships
The most exciting news was the selection of Luke Birdseye and Rachel Clutterbuck to represent Great Britain in the U18 Men’s and Women’s steeplechase events at the European U18 Athletics Championships which are being held in Jerusalem from 4th to 7th July 2022. South of England 3000m Championships
Jake Meyburgh contested the U15 Boys’ South of England 3000m championships which he won in a time of 9.09.45. In addition, Aashni Manek was 10th in the U17 Women’s 3000m. Full results here.
English Schools Athletic Association Championship (ESAA) Selections
Based on achieving championship qualifying times and/or performances in respective county schools championships, 16 WSEH middle distance athletes have been selected to represent their counties at the ESAA Championships in Manchester on 6th and 7th July.
