WSEH 4th in England Athletics Virtual Road Relay Competition – National Round

After winning the 1st round of the EA Virtual Road Relay 8 x 5 mile competition, our middle and long distance athletes aged 15 years and above had the opportunity to participate in the national round alongside the other 49 top finishers.

To achieve a finishing time, 8 runners from the club (4 men and 4 women) had to run 5 miles each between Wednesday 10 February and Sunday 21 February 2021 and upload their time onto OpenTrack and also to Strava for verification. Over the qualifying period, a total of 1,026 runners from the 50 finalists completed the 5 miles.

Competing against clubs with teams made up wholly of senior athletes (including GB internationals), Windsor’s team, consisting of athletes from every age group (U15G, U15B, U17W, U17M, U20W, U20M, SW, SM, W35 and M35) finished a very worthy 4th overall in a time of 3:34:25 which was over 7 minutes faster than their time for round 1 and was less than 2 minutes behind winners Wirral AC.

The athletes making up the scoring 8 were:

  • Blake Moore – 24:27 – 17th fastest time overall
  • Daniel Brookling – 25:21 – 5th fastest U20M
  • Will Barnicoat – 25:47 – 9th fastest U20M
  • Simon Millet – 25:54
  • Alex Barbour – 27:20 – 4th fastest female
  • Jasmine Young –  27:59 –  2nd fastest U17W
  • Charlotte Firth – 28:15 – fastest W35
  • Rachel Clutterbuck – 29:22 – fastest U15G
