WSEH Athletes on England Athletics Youth & Junior Talent Programme & excel in the USA

Congratulations to Jasmine Young (Youth) and Alex Barbour (Junior) who have been accepted on the England Athletics Youth and Junior Talent Programmes (coach Shireen Higgins).

The Youth Talent Programme (YTP) is the first step on the Talent pathway designed to meet the needs of identified, talented English athletes (aged between 16 and 18 years of age) and their coaches. The programme focuses on developing a dual career for the athlete through fulfilling their potential within the sport and also in their education and employability. The Junior Talent Programme (JTP) is for athletes born between 1 January 1999 and 31 August 2002 whose profile meets the EA rising performance funnel criteria.

Congratulations to both athletes.

A mention must also go to U20 High Jumpers athletes Lionel Owona and Oscar Wiking (coach Val Stenning) who are both in their 2nd year on the programme.

WSEH Athletes at University in the USA

Well done to WSEH Athlete Sarah Chapman currently studying at Missouri University (coach Shireen Higgins) who was 47th in the NCAA cross country in March 2021. She was also recently voted the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) athlete of the week for running under 20 minutes for 6k cross country.

Molly Jones (coach Shireen Higgins) has also just completed her first race for Coastal Carolina University coming in a great 2nd for the university team.

Well done to these two athletes – if there are there any more WSEH athletes at uni in the USA who have recently taken part in any competitions, please contact the club so that we can publish the results.

Another 10k PB for Ben Rowe

Ben Rowe had another great run in the Woodley 10k on Sunday 25th October, running a PB of 35:26 the race was organised under strict Covid secure guidelines, runners were started in small groups at staggered intervals based on predicted finish times. Chip timing meant that every athlete had their result available instantly as they crossed the finish line.

Please send us your results!

As we all know, keeping track of achievements during COVID-19 restrictions is very difficult for clubs. If there are there any more WSEH athletes out there who have been accepted into the England Athletics programmes or have achieved competition results of note, please do contact the club so that we can publish the good news.
