Winter competitions
We compete in competitions throughout the whole calendar year. In the winter competition year, (1st October to 31st March), we compete in the following inter club team-based competitions:
- South of England (SEAA) Road Relays
- National Road Relays
- South of England (SEAA) Cross Country Relays
- National Cross Country Relays
- Southern (SEAA) Cross Country Championships
- National Cross Country Championships
- A regional based Cross Country League (North West London Young Athletes League)
Athletes can also compete individually in County Cross Country Championships and from there, Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships. Plus for school aged athletes, through their schools there are the English Schools Cross Country races (ESAA), ESAA schools cup and the County schools leading to the Regional and National schools championships.
In the winter season we race on the road and cross country. Athletes will be expected to race for the club at weekends. From school year 6, races are mainly every 3-4 weeks, (sometimes every 2 weeks), some may involve some travel, mainly local but a few can be further away when we get to regionals and nationals.
All juniors in a middle distance group that trains off track as well as on the track will start with the basic grounding of a club based winter season, while seniors don’t necessarily all do the full winter cross country season and may move onto more road racing.
In addition to this there are indoor track & field ‘open meetings’. Most open meetings are designed for athletes to compete as individuals to try to improve their personal best times and distances / win medals and trophies. Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow Athletic Club view indoor track & field as another key part of an athlete’s development, especially for juniors.
In addition, for certain athletes, there are some great combined events competitions to target, notably the South of England indoor combined events championships and the England Athletics indoor combined events championships. There are also indoor combined events ‘open meetings’, some of which are opportunities to prepare and qualify for the regional and national competitions.
For road racing and cross-country, we are a high performing club in the South of England and many of our athletes reach national finals.
